Please read all of the information below as well as the categories and criteria information before completing the online entry form.

HOW TO ENTER
Entries to the MUSE Awards may be submitted December 1, 2009 through January 31, 2010.

Complete an online entry form for each project you enter. You will receive a confirmation email upon full completion of each online form. If you are an external producer submitting a project on behalf of a museum, notify the museum that you are submitting to the MUSE awards.Here are the steps to follow at that time:

  1. Submit complete information into our online entry form. A confirmation email will automatically be sent upon proper completion of the form.
        
  2. If you are entering a project that is not a Web site, you will need to make three copies of the CD/DVD, and any other ancillary information that you would like the MUSE award judges to review.
        
  3. Please send all three review copies to the Getty Center in Los Angeles and we will redistribute to the appropriate juries.

  4. Three review copies must arrive at the Getty Center by January 31, 2010. If your project is nominated for the Jim Blackaby Ingenuity Award, you may be asked to submit more review copies at a later date.
    REQUIRED: Include the entry number, title of project, Museum name, Producer name, and category on all 3 review copies.

  5. Make your payment via our, secure online account with PayPal or by check. We recommend and encourage making payment by credit card whenever possible. We no longer accept credit card payments via phone, mail or fax.

FEES
The entry fee for the 2010 International MUSE Awards is $30 per submission.

If you are a member of AAM and would like to join the Media & Technology Committee, see http://www.mediaandtechnology.org/membership/index.html for more information and an application form. Media and Technology Committee membership costs $20 per year for individuals, $30 for institutions and commercial organizations in addition to your AAM membership fee.

NOTE: Do not send AAM general or committee membership fees with your entry.


Payments by Credit Card.
At the end of the entry submission, you will be able to pay by credit card through our secure PayPal account. You can use Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express* to fund your PayPal payment.

*Please note that American Express has decided to decline credit card transactions in which an American Express Corporate Card is used with PayPal. At this time, attempts to register or use an American Express Corporate Card in conjunction with PayPal will be declined.

Be sure to note your entry number(s) in the entry number field. If you are paying for more than one entry, please enter each entry number separated by a comma.

Payments by Check

Please make checks payable to "AAM Media & Technology Committee" and include the following information:

  1. Name of museum
  2. Entry number and name of entry on the memo line

AWARD NOTIFICATION
Entrants will be notified of their awards status via email.


AWARDS
Winners in each category receive either a Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Honorable Mention award. All awards will be presented and featured at a reception during the AAM Annual Meeting, May 23–26, 2010 in Los Angeles, CA. Winning entries are publicized on the Media & Technology Web site and in the November-December 2010 issue of Museum.


COMPETITION POLICIES

  1. There is a limit of 5 (five) entries submitted by the same organization (museum or independent producer). Note: Submissions from producers on behalf of a museum count toward the total number of submissions from an institution.

  2. There can be no more than 3 (three) entries by the same institution in the same category. Note: Submissions from producers on behalf of a museum count toward the total number of submissions from an institution.

  3. An entry can ONLY be submitted to 1 (one) category

  4. There is no time limit (year produced) for entries submitted

  5. Submissions will NOT be returned after the competition; they become the property of AAM for archival and reference purposes. AAM has the right to use, without limitations, all submitted materials for the following, Web site, Museum Magazine, Flickr, AAM Webinars, podcasts.

  6. Programs submitted in previous years may not be re-submitted, unless there has been significant changes made (must be approved on a case by case basis by MUSE chair and M&T Board).

  7. The competition is not responsible for lost or damaged submissions.

  8. Foreign entries must have an English language soundtrack or subtitles.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ENTRY
Museums of any size and discipline and country are eligible to submit. Productions made by independent or commercial producers on behalf of a museum may be submitted with a letter of support written and sent by the museum. Please send that letter via e-mail to muse@mediaandtechnology.org. The letter of support must state that the project being entered was created for the museum submitting the letter and vouch for the submission.


JUDGING OF ENTRIES
Jury committees are composed of museum and media professionals with expertise in media and technology programming, production, and subject content. No one having a personal or professional association with an entry may serve on a jury judging that category.

If you would like helpful feedback from the jury that judged your project, please contact the Muse Chairs and we will ask the Jury Chair of that category for you. Keep in mind that the juries might review up to 35 entries, and don't always document comments about specific projects.


SHIPPING ENTRIES
Entries must be clearly labeled with the exact title of the program and running time (if applicable), and the name of the sponsoring museum; all information should correspond to that given on the entry form.

Film and video programs must be submitted in the form of VHS videocassettes (NTSC), CD/ROM, or DVD. CD-ROMs must note clearly whether program is in Mac-only, Windows-only, or cross-platform format (preferred). If program has been produced separately in each format, please send three copies of each.

Entries must be shipped by carrier that has traceable tracking systems (UPS, Federal Express, etc.). Collect or COD shipments will not be accepted. Entries must arrive at the J. Paul Getty Trust (see address below) by January 31, 2010. Canadian and foreign submissions must be sent Air Mail Registered with the declaration: Free entry claimed under #724.12 (960.60) U.S. Tariff Act. (For media competition). Entrants assume responsibility for clearing programs through U.S. and/or foreign customs.

WINNING ENTRIES
If you receive an email that you have won an award, within one weeks time you are required to:

A) Confirm the accuracy of the information emailed to you, that includes: entry number, entry title, category, producers (institution + external producer if applicable), primary contact(s) name and email.

B) Email one tif image file representing your entry (.tif  -- 300 dpi at  5 inches x 7 inches, to accommodate use on the Web, in a PowerPoint presentation, and in print).
Note: Use your entry number + category as the file name (e.g., 00000-podcast.tif)

C) Email one Word document with a brief paragraph (200 words maximum) that describes the target audience, goals, and outcome of your project. If you wish to include credits, please include them in prose form rather than as a bulleted list.

D) Gold MUSE winners will be featured in an exciting podcast series showcasing exemplary museum media and technology projects. Gold winners will be interviewed about the winning project as part of a podcast series. These podcasts will be featured on the M&T itunes feed and the M&T Web site. Gold Winners will be contacted to make arrangements.
