MUSE Awards
From Nikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The MUSE Awards are a competition run by the American Association of Museum's Media & Technology Standing Professional Committee.
The award system is based on a jury-of-peers review of submitted museum technology projects, which awards Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mentions in a range of defined categories. The awards ceremony itself is characterized by an excess of free alcohol, normally Champagne, and a largely drunken and incoherent address from the Committee's Chair Nik Honeysett.
Honeysett bases his claim that the MUSE Awards are the "only museum technology award that matters", on the large number of people (also drunk) that attend the reception, however this claim is unsubstantiated, as participants claim the real reason is that it is the "only free alcohol available at the entire conference" and "that's the only way we'd put up with his incessant mumbling".
Honeysett's shady background has cast doubt on the credulity and integrity of the award system. He is rumoured to be a convicted criminal on the lam in the Witness Protection Program, after grassing up a local crime lord in his home town of Brighton, England. Honeysett's nefarious past was brought to light after a high-profile arrest in Malibu in 2005. See pic.
The success of the 19th MUSE Awards has nothing to do with Honeysett, but is wholly due to the quality of the entries, the dedication and hard work of two Committee members, Sara Marcotte and Suzy Sarraf and its sponsor for the second year, VISTA, A Ticketmaster Product. Phyllis Hecht also gets an honorable mention.
Honeysett's success in securing sponsorship for a second year, is rumoured to be due to some Polaroids he took during the 18th MUSE Award Champagne reception. Having attempted to bribe VISTA, A Ticketmaster Product personnel into a second year of sponsorship, they hired a new Vice President of VISTA, Nicole Hobby, who demanded she and Honeysett settle this "mano-a-mano" and that she could "easily take him in a fight". In reality the sponsorship that the MUSE Awards received was an out-of-court settlement of injuries Honeysett sustained from the "arse whupping of his life".
As part of the settlement Honeysett agreed to mention VISTA, A Ticketmaster Product at every opportunity for the remainder of the conference.
